Do you think we are all Laurie or Michael?
Wow, that's the best question they've asked me in all these years. We are both. And that's the problem. We all think it's us versus them. But we are all of them and us. And this is the problem of politics, religion, discrimination. The moment we blame others, we stop looking at ourselves. And looking at ourselves I think is the most important thing. I am American: we are the land of the free, the home of courage. But do you know what it is? We are not the house of freedom: in America we have had slavery. We are horrible to people in America. Poverty is terrible in America: people have no food. We have problems and we need to look in the mirror. And, to answer your question, I think it's crucial that we are both. We are everything. It is from this awareness that the answers will come.
Halloween Kills: fear first of all
In this film fear is a central theme: many people say: "We will never give in to fear", but it is not easy. How you do it?
Different people have said various things: politicians have told people that the only thing to fear is fear itself. Beautiful statements about fear. Fear is part of life: it is what keeps us alive. If we weren't afraid we would jump off the cliff. Fear is for a balanced life. The problem is when fear takes over. It's like you said before: are we Michael or Laurie? Are we fear or courage? The man on the front lines in Vietnam is afraid. It has to be, because they are the most vulnerable. Vulnerability means fear. I scream for your dress. I love great beauty. I love the style. I have a friend, the woman who gave me these shoes: Patti Rockenwagner, she gave them to me because she knew I would be wearing very high heels all day and it would be a problem.
